Ad Production Manager, Communities Magazine
Managed the status of 300 to 400 ads per monthly issue by collecting materials from clients, writing copy for ads, creating ads to clients’ specifications and tracking the status of ads during the production cycle. Worked closely with the art department to confirm ads were placed correctly and according to the imposition. Performed final editing of the magazine prior to publication.

  • Collaborated with numerous clients to ensure contractual obligations were met by them and by the company.
  • Developed and implemented new procedures to streamline workflow as the company changed and grew.
  • Aided in creating a new computer program to track ads, leads and bills.

 

FRANCE PUBLICATIONS, Atlanta, GA - 2002-2004

Editor, Heartland Real Estate Business
Oversaw all aspects of producing monthly real estate magazine. Chief responsibilities included determining editorial content and setting internal deadlines to meet print dates; assigning articles to freelancers and real estate companies; writing one to four feature articles per month; and laying out editorial content and ads in Quark. Additional duties included meeting with real estate companies for interviews and attending trade shows to gather editorial ideas.

  • Supervised daily work of associate editors, which consisted of writing, editing and layout.
  • Managed the editorial budget to maximize corporate profits.
  • Created ads for the magazine.

  • Assistant Editor, American City & County
  • Worked with the editorial, production and graphic arts departments to produce monthly magazines. Primary emphasis placed on writing eight to 10 articles per month, and editing features and trends in accordance with AP style.

 

  • Successfully managed the Product Review, a sister publication. Responsibilities included writing features and product descriptions, collaborating with the sales team to ensure accurate ad placement, and laying out the publication using Adobe InDesign.

Rural Roads: Where Finance and Safety Collide - MISTY REAGIN
Rural roads experience a large number of fatalities — much more than urban interstates — yet they get the least amount of federal investment per lane mile. That is the conclusion of the Washington, D.C.-based National Association of Counties (NACo) based on a report by the U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO). The report, which was completed in July 2001 and was commissioned by NACo, examined the distribution of federal funding between urban and rural roads, and the number of fatalities by type of roadway.

Turned on by Trash - MISTY REAGIN
Most people are turned off by the smell of landfill gas (LFG). But, to some cities and counties, LFG smells like money. They are finding that using LFG to generate electricity, heat or steam can help them save considerable cash by minimizing their use of non-renewable energy sources.

LFG is made up of about 50 percent methane, about 45 percent carbon dioxide and usually less than 5 percent varying amounts of nitrogen, oxygen and other non-methane organic compounds. Most of the time, it simply is burned off by flares installed in landfills. But some local governments are harnessing it to do everything from power trucks to heat buildings.

Neighborhood Development Revisits the Past - MISTY REAGIN
To reduce urban sprawl and create a sense of community, city planners in Columbus, Ohio, are taking a giant leap backwards. The Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) article, which was adopted by the city council in May, outlines a plan to create neighborhoods similar to those of the pre-World War II era.

The purpose of the code is to re-introduce mixed-use neighborhood developments that create a “small town” feel. Rather than segregating houses, apartments, offices and stores, TND proposes that those elements be available within easy walking distance of one another.

Animating Real Estate - MISTY REAGIN
While there are many people in commercial real estate that can understand blueprints or a plan of a new development, there are also many people who cannot envision what the final project will look like. To combat this problem, some developers are turning to three-dimensional visualization technology. This computer technology can be used for a number of purposes, such as project portrayal at governmental approval meetings, pre-sales/marketing exhibits and design evaluation.

Hot in the City - MISTY REAGIN
Among the hottest commercial real estate projects being developed in central business districts (CBDs) across the Midwest are mixed-use and multifamily projects. In most cases, empty nesters are driving this trend by selling their large homes in the suburbs — opting instead for low-maintenance apartments or condominiums in the city. In some cities, such as Milwaukee, retail and office developments are on the rise to meet the demands of residents moving into the CBD. Developers are also tending toward redevelopment projects, especially of historic properties.
