STUDENT OFFICERS

Student officers (except the Drum Major) shall be voted on by the members of the JDJ Band and approved by the director. The director holds the right to reject any nomination of any position for any reason. The director also holds the right to recommend any person for any position. The following are the offices:

Drum Major, Band Captain, Band Co-Captain, Representative of each section (section leaders), Representative of each grade level.

The Band Captain and Co-Captain must have been in the JDJ Band for at least 2 years and have shown great leadership qualities and abilities in that time. The section leaders must have been in the JDJ Band for at least 1 year and have shown great leadership qualities and abilities in that time. The Drum Major must go through an audition process and be selected as the best person for the position by the director and a panel of other appropriate persons selected by the director. The grade representatives must have been in the band for at least 1 year (except the freshmen representative) and have shown great leadership qualities and abilities in that time.

Roles

The role of the Drum Major is to lead the band as a whole on and off the marching field.

The role of the Captain and Co-Captain is to be available to the rest of the band for questions to be brought to the director and to lead the band as a whole on and off the field.

The role of the section leaders are to run individual sectionals and be responsible for their section to know their music and drill. Also to lead the band, and more specifically their section on and off the field. They are to be the “voice” of their section for ideas, suggestions, complaints to the director.

The role of the grade leaders is to represent and “voice” their grade level to the director.
